Comparison of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES
-
We often get asked why regular shampoos and conditioners are not suitable for maintaining Cocochoco treatment. This is because most hair products contain keratin-washable sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). and botox for the hair. In addition, SLS irritates the scalp and damages the hair due to prolonged use. All Cocochoco shampoos, conditioners and masks are developed to simultaneously cleanse and moisturize your hair, without unwanted irritation, making them suitable for use on all hair types, regardless of treatment.
We will explain the difference between sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate so you know why you will never find sodium lauryl sulfate in Cocochoco products.
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)
Sodium lauryl sulfate is found in many cosmetic products that we use every day. It removes greasy residues very effectively and creates a foam that cleanses the hair, which is why it is a common ingredient in shampoos. Hand soaps, facial cleansers, shaving creams and even toothpaste create foam thanks to sodium lauryl sulfate. However, precisely because of such effectiveness, after Cocochoco treatment, the use of products that contain it is not recommended. With cocochoco keratin straightening and botox treatments, a layer of product is applied to your hair, which is then "sealed" in the hair using high temperature, and in fact, the outer part of the hair is intentionally coated with a layer of product that washes away sodium lauryl sulfate.
After Cocochoco treatment, the use of products containing sodium lauryl sulfate is not recommended, as they will significantly reduce the effect of the treatment. This is precisely why Cocochoco post-treatment care products do not contain sodium lauryl sulfate. A link was found between shampoos containing it and damaged hair and hair loss. This happens because sodium lauryl sulfate often remains in the hair follicles long after washing, causing the hair to weaken due to prolonged use. Sodium lauryl sulfate also irritates the skin if the skin is exposed to it for a long time.
Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES)
Some of our products contain sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). Although they have a similar name, these are significantly different ingredients. Sodium laureth sulfate is formed by the ethoxylation of sodium lauryl sulfate, a process in which ethylene oxide is added, which changes the composition. This means that sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) is safe to use in hair care products, including Cocochoco products, because it is gentler on the skin and hair compared to sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). Sodium laureth sulfate will not irritate the skin or wash the treatment off or dry out the hair. Hair care products that contain sodium laureth sulfate are just as effective at creating lather and cleansing hair, but will not negatively affect the effects of Cocochoco treatment as those that contain sodium lauryl sulfate.
By combining sodium laureth sulfate, natural extracts and other skin-friendly ingredients, we have developed different lines of Cocochoco aftercare products to provide you and your hair with superior care. From shampoos and conditioners, to masks and serums, we offer a wide range of products to help your hair maintain its shine and softness.
